Position Duties
- Independently perform the day-to-day digitization of materials at the Annapolis facility, with a focus on patron and paid agency scanning requests.
- Consult with the Director to determine best practice for digitization requests.
- Utilize a variety of digitization equipment and editing software to create images for delivery to patrons and/or upload to the permanent electronic repository.
- Maintain appropriate care and maintenance of digitization equipment.
- Prepare images using editing and renaming software for delivery to patrons and/or upload to the permanent repository in accordance with Department policies.
- Provide regular updates on scanning projects to the supervisor in a timely manner.
- Review completed scanning jobs and update Servicewise tickets.
- Lead scanning projects that are being completed in the Annapolis facility.
- Prepare images for oversized printing using commercial printing equipment.
- Attend scanning project meetings with outside organizations to collect necessary information for calculating time and cost estimates.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- Six years of professional archival work with public records.
- Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus two years of professional archival experience.
- Academic credit from an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty credit hours per year of required experience.
- Two years of experience in the Archival Assistant series classification instead of required education and up to four years of the required experience.
- U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Archivist classifications or Archivist specialty codes in the Library and Archives field on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of production-level digitization experience.
- Two years of experience using Photoshop.
Limitations on Selection
This recruitment is limited to current employees of the Maryland State Archives.
Special Requirements
- Employees may be required to lift up to 50 pounds when record shipments arrive and climb ladders.
- Exercise caution during the retrieval and replacement of heavy volumes from library shelves, particularly when using library ladders.
- Employees may work rotating shifts and may be required to work Saturdays.
