The Minnesota Historical Society invites applications for an Intern - Community Engagement Research Intern in St. Paul, MN. This part-time, temporary role supports archival research into TCJACL history and creates a timeline for public presentation.

The project blends academic study with hands-on curation and community outreach. Includes seminars, in-person and hybrid work, and collaboration with MNHS staff and partner archives.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled as undergraduate or graduate, or recent graduate.
• Ideal candidates in History, Archival Science, Digital Communication, Journalism, Ethnic/American Studies, Public History.
• Some experience doing archival research.
• Experience with community engagement and public participation projects.
• Ability to work weekends/evenings for events.
• Interest in Asian American history and culture.
• Preference for experience with BIPOC communities.

Responsibilities

• Research archival materials at multiple libraries and repositories to map TCJACL records.
• Develop plans to preserve materials and share catalog with researchers.
• Explore digitization and online access to archival records.
• Create a prioritization plan for digitization.
• Attend meetings and events with the TCJACL as needed.
• Create a physical or digital history timeline to share publicly.
• Present a draft community timeline at the Day of Remembrance event in 2027.
• Communicate with MNHS staff on project logistics and updates.
• Meet MNHS staff and attend department meetings as needed.
