Job summary

Ancestry is seeking a project-based Archival Digitization Specialist to work on a contract basis in Philadelphia, PA. You will digitize documents, audit scans, and maintain organized data and images for delivery to the corporate office.

The role requires hands-on experience with scanning/editing equipment, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently on focused tasks. This is a full-time, 40-hour weekly position with a 2-year duration starting October 2026.

Qualifications

  • Experience with scanning and editing equipment, procedures and materials.
  • Background in Photography, Library and Archives, or History is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and determine urgency practically.

Responsibilities

  • Capture digital images of documents as specified by Ancestry.
  • Perform quality audits on each roll scanned before transmission.
  • Enter data into spreadsheets and report progress and quality audit notes.
  • Coordinate delivery/transmission of images to the corporate office.
  • Perform regular equipment maintenance and coordinate for machine maintenance.
  • Do basic image enhancement and file organization tasks.
  • Maintain professional relationships with partners to protect the image and mission of Ancestry.com.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks related to projects as they arise.

Ancestry is looking for a project-based temporary Archival Digitization Specialist to work on a contract basis in Philadelphia, PA. We ask that you are a technical person with experience working with digitization, archival documents, and goal oriented projects. You are efficient, show great care for detail, and are accustomed to independent work in an environment that handles focused and repetitive tasks. This is a full-time opportunity working Monday through Friday from 8:30 am- 4:00 pm, 40 hours a week and will last for about 2 years. You will report to the Domestic Remote Senior Imaging Manager. This is not a work-from-home position. This position is contract-based and is not eligible for Ancestry benefits. Compensation will be $20 per hr.

What You Will Do
  • You will capture digital images of documents as specified by our company
  • You will perform quality audits on each roll that have been scanned before transmission
  • You will report progress and quality audit notes and enter data into spreadsheets (can maintain complex spreadsheets)
  • You will initiate and maintain responsibility of the delivery or transmission of images to the corporate office
  • You will perform regular equipment maintenance functions, and coordinate for machine maintenance with third-party hardware service providers
  • You will perform basic image enhancement and file organization tasks
  • You will maintain professional relationships with partners that protect the image and mission of Ancestry.com
  • You will be expected to do various miscellaneous tasks related to the projects, as they arise.
Who You Are
  • You can manage several projects and determine project urgency in a practical way
  • You have experience anticipating problems, and finding creative ways to solve them
  • You have experience with scanning and editing equipment, procedures and materials
  • You have experience with Photography, Library and Archives, or History background
