Job summary

Monkey in the Metal in Baltimore is seeking an Architectual Millwork & Custom Shop Carpenter to join our fabrication team. You will build and finish custom pieces from drawings to finished work, working on cabinetry, millwork, furniture, fixtures, and architectural components.

Experience with cabinetmaking, millwork, woodworking, and shop carpentry is ideal. You’ll read drawings and specs, operate woodshop machinery, and help deliver unique pieces for diverse clients while maintaining high

Qualifications

  • Experience in cabinetry, millwork, woodworking or shop carpentry.
  • Ability to read drawings and specifications and measure accurately.
  • Operate common woodworking machinery and hand tools safely.
  • Work independently in a small shop while collaborating with teammates.
  • Strong finish quality and attention to fit and detail.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and assemble cabinetry, millwork, furniture, fixtures and architectural components.
  • Read drawings, cut lists and project specs to guide fabrication.
  • Cut, shape, fit, assemble and finish wood components.
  • Operate woodworking machinery and hand tools safely and accurately.
  • Prepare materials for fabrication and installation; check dimensions and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with fabricators to solve design challenges.

Monkey in the Metal is looking for a skilled, hands-onArchitectural Millwork & Custom Shop Carpenterto join our Baltimore fabrication team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience incabinetmaking, architectural millwork, custom woodworking, furniture fabrication, finish carpentry, or a similar shop environmentwho enjoys building unique pieces and solving new challenges.

We don't operate like a production cabinet shop where the same components are built repeatedly. Our projects range from custom furniture and architectural features to retail fixtures, signage, artwork, and specialty installations.

About Monkey in the Metal

Founded in 2012, Monkey in the Metal is a Baltimore-based custom fabrication company specializing infurniture, fixtures, architectural treatments, signage, artwork, and specialty fabrication.

We work with architects, designers, contractors, developers, and commercial clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic to turn creative concepts into finished pieces.

Our shop combines woodworking, metal fabrication, problem-solving, and craftsmanship to produce projects that rarely look exactly like the one before them.

What You'll Do

As part of our fabrication team, you will help build and finish custom pieces from concept through completion.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Fabricating and assembling custom cabinetry, millwork, furniture, fixtures, and architectural components
  • Reading drawings, measurements, cut lists, and project specifications
  • Cutting, shaping, fitting, assembling, and finishing wood components
  • Operating woodworking machinery, power tools, and hand tools safely and accurately
  • Preparing materials and components for fabrication and installation
  • Working with laminates, hardwoods, plywood, sheet goods, and other fabrication materials
  • Performing detailed fitting, sanding, finishing, and final adjustments
  • Checking dimensions and finished work for accuracy and quality
  • Collaborating with other fabricators to solve unusual construction and design challenges
  • Assisting with projects that combine wood, metal, and other materials
  • Maintaining an organized, efficient, and safe shop environment
Who We're Looking For

You may come from acabinet shop, millwork company, custom furniture shop, woodworking operation, exhibit/display fabricator, finish carpentry company, or specialty fabrication environment.

We're particularly interested in someone who:

  • Has hands-on experience withcabinetry, millwork, woodworking, furniture fabrication, or shop carpentry
  • Understands how pieces are built, fitted, assembled, and finished
  • Is comfortable working from measurements, drawings, and specifications
  • Can safely operate common woodworking equipment and shop tools
  • Pays close attention to dimensions, fit, finish, and craftsmanship
  • Is comfortable working on custom projects where some problem-solving is required
  • Can work independently while collaborating effectively with a small shop team
  • Takes pride in producing clean, professional finished work
  • Is dependable and able to follow a project through completion
  • Has a valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Experience withmetal fabrication, welding, installation, CNC equipment, finishing, or other specialty fabrication techniquesis a plus, but is not required.
