Job description

Location: Downtown Los Angeles / Koreatown Area

Compensation: $95,000–$150,000 Base + Bonus

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Opportunity

Prevail Recruiting has partnered with a highly respected architectural firm with more than 50 years of history in Southern California to identify an experienced Architectural Job Captain for its Los Angeles office.

This is a long-established firm with an exceptional reputation, a strong and consistent project pipeline, and work extending throughout California and nationally. The firm provides a collaborative environment where Job Captains work directly with experienced Architects, Project Managers, consultants, and firm leadership.

This is an excellent opportunity for an architectural professional who is technically strong in Revit and construction documentation and wants greater responsibility across the entire project lifecycle.

The successful candidate will immediately contribute to active projects, including projects currently in the construction document phase, while continuing to develop toward independently managing projects and taking on broader Project Management and Architect-level responsibilities.

What You'll Be Doing

As an Architectural Job Captain, you will play a key technical and coordination role from design development through construction administration.

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare, develop, and coordinate comprehensive construction document packages using Revit.
  • Produce architectural plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, and permit drawing packages.
  • Coordinate architectural documents with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, and specialty consultants.
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Architects to move projects from design development through permitting and construction.
  • Maintain and coordinate accurate, organized Revit models throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review drawings for compliance with applicable California Building Code, accessibility, and ADA requirements.
  • Participate in internal quality control and constructability reviews.
  • Identify and resolve drawing conflicts and consultant coordination issues before they impact permitting or construction.
  • Assist with entitlement and permitting processes as required.
  • Support construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, drawing revisions, field observations, and consultant coordination.
  • Help manage project schedules and deliverables to ensure critical deadlines are met.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, consultants, engineers, contractors, and internal project teams.
  • Take increasing ownership of projects with the opportunity to eventually run projects from start to finish.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a related architectural discipline from an accredited program.
  • Approximately 3–5+ years of professional architectural experience, preferably including experience functioning as a Job Captain.
  • Strong hands‑on proficiency with Revit is required.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and completing architectural construction documents.
  • Experience coordinating structural, MEP, civil, and other outside consultants.
  • Working knowledge of California building codes and accessibility requirements.
  • Ability to read, develop, coordinate, and quality‑check detailed architectural drawings.
  • Strong organizational and scheduling skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative project team.

Candidates should expect to complete a Revit/technical skills assessment as part of the interview process.

Preferred Experience

Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:

  • Institutional projects
  • Educational facilities
  • Civic and municipal projects
  • Public-sector projects
  • Entitlement and permitting
  • Construction administration

Experience with AutoCAD, Lumion, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, SketchUp, or Rhino is also beneficial.

Base Salary: $95,000–$150,000, depending on experience and technical capabilities.

The overall compensation package includes:
  • Annual performance bonus opportunity
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Long-term career advancement
  • Direct exposure to firm leadership
  • Opportunity to advance into Project Management and licensed Architect responsibilities
Why Consider This Opportunity?

This isn't a position where you'll spend years performing one narrow piece of the architectural process.

You'll have the opportunity to participate in projects from design development and construction documentation through permitting and construction administration, while working alongside experienced architectural professionals and firm leadership.

The firm offers an exceptional work environment and long-standing reputation as a great place to build a career, with many employees developing and advancing within the organization over the long term.

You'll be joining a stable, established architectural practice with more than five decades of success, meaningful projects, a strong pipeline of upcoming work, and a culture centered on quality architecture, collaboration, professional development, and long-term career growth.
