Job Summary

Salas O'Brien is seeking a talented Architectural Engineer with a focus in either electrical or mechanical engineering to join a unique co-located design team supporting the development of a world-class, net-zero corporate headquarters for a leading technology company in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Architectural Engineer will support integrated building systems design and provide technical leadership for the creation of construction drawings and specifications, existing system studies, and master planning efforts. Depending on the candidate’s technical focus, responsibilities may emphasize electrical systems or mechanical/HVAC systems. Qualified candidates will collaborate with clients, architects, project teams, code officials, MEP equipment manufacturers, contractors, and other consultants to address design requirements and develop effective working relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Develop integrated building system designs based on project scope of work and/or client RFPs, with a technical focus in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Provide engineering design, evaluation, and planning for building systems serving healthcare, science and technology, education, hospitality, multi-family, commercial, and other project types.
  • Coordinate engineering design with owner requirements, architectural design, and other specialty consultants as part of a multi-discipline design team.
  • For an electrical focus: develop designs and calculations for power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, data and communication, emergency power, and related electrical systems.
  • For a mechanical focus: develop HVAC system designs, perform load and energy calculations using tools such as Trane 3D Plus and IES, and support equipment selection and system planning.
  • Develop system design calculations and select appropriate equipment for use in buildings.
  • Prepare detailed construction documents, reports, studies, and project specifications.
  • Apply applicable codes, standards, and design guidelines to each project.
  • Coordinate work across disciplines and support integrated design decisions that advance energy efficiency, occupant wellness, sustainability, and overall building performance.
  • Provide construction administration services, including coordination with contractors and project stakeholders.
Qualifications And Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, with an electrical or mechanical engineering focus; a closely related engineering degree may also be considered.
  • 3-5 years of building systems design experience in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or an integrated architectural engineering environment.
  • Fundamentals-in-Engineering (FE) certification is preferred; Professional Engineer (PE) license is beneficial.
  • LEED or similar sustainable design certification and/or experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in at least one technical discipline: electrical building systems such as power distribution, fire alarm, data and communication, lighting, and emergency power; or mechanical building systems such as HVAC design and load/energy analysis.
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable codes, standards, and design guidelines.
  • Experience working effectively with architects, engineers, and other disciplines on integrated building design projects.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit; proficiency with MS Office is also expected.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, including the ability to plan, balance, and prioritize work.
  • Excellent work ethic, collaborative mindset, and professional attitude.

Compensation & Benefits

The expected base salary range for this role is $105,000 - $120,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
