Job summary

The Building People in Washington, DC area seeks a licensed Interior Architect for a full-time role in a prominent federal agency. The successful candidate will apply building codes and trades-specific requirements and bring a solid background in interior design and construction planning.

You will participate in design development, prepare construction documents, and collaborate with stakeholders across disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Architect; NCIDQ or NCARB preferred.
  • Top Secret Clearance required.
  • 10–15 years of commercial interior design experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specs, and construction documents.
  • Experience with office furniture specification and space planning.
  • Experience with federal government office planning.
  • Strong communication with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

The Building People has a position for a full-time Interior Architect in a prominent federal agency in the Washington, DC area. The successful candidate will have expertise/knowledge of building codes and trades-specific requirements and a solid background in interior design and related construction planning and development. The team is actively involved in small and large project design development, construction document preparation and project execution of unique projects.

Responsibilities / Duties
  • Gather information, interface with all stakeholders, and prepare documentation guiding interior design functions related to various projects
  • Apply OSHA and ADA requirements, and all building and safety codes
  • Work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Present data and plans to all stakeholders — both in person and via email, phone and other means of communication media
Required Experience & Skills
  • Licensed Architect
  • Top Secret Clearance
  • 10-15 years minimum experience in commercial Interior design for tenant improvements, restacking and interior build out of new and existing spaces
  • Ability to read and understand architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other construction documents for construction projects
  • Ability to create architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other construction documents for construction projects
  • Familiarity with commercial office furniture lines and have a working knowledge of both casegoods and systems furniture specification
  • Working knowledge of space planning and interior design for commercial/ government office space. Working knowledge of selection of interior finishes and materials
  • Ability to carry on business conversations with decision makers and to interact and cooperate with all stakeholders
  • Self-motivated, able to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment, both individually and as a team player. Excellent quantitative, analytic, and process mapping skills
  • Expertise with AutoCAD 2015 or higher
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software – Project, Word, Excel, Power Point & Outlook
  • Proficient in SmartSheets software
  • Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and respond in quick time frames
  • Successful completion of the NCIDQ or NCARB certifications
  • Background in commercial or Federal government office planning
Preferred Experience & Skills
  • Large commercial office space planning
  • Federal agency experience
Required Education
  • A minimum of a BS/BA architecture/interior design degree or Master's in Architecture Certified Interior Designer will also be considered
Preferred Education
  • Master's in Architecture

Salary offered will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, qualifications, and certifications.

Our positions may require a background screening and clearance directly from the Government.
