Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect to define and drive the architectural vision for enterprise systems across the health ecosystem. You will lead cross-functional teams, create scalable designs, and align technology with strategic goals.

You will mentor junior architects, evaluate new technologies, and ensure regulatory compliance. This role offers flexible remote work within the U.S. and onsite collaboration in major hubs as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of enterprise architecture, solution architecture, system design, and software development.
• 5+ years of microservices, APIs, RESTful services, and SOA experience.
• 2+ years leading large-scale projects and cross-functional teams.
• 2+ years cloud experience (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native principles.
• 2+ years healthcare industry experience and familiarity with regulations.
• Experience with modern languages (Java, Python, C#, etc.).
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases, data modeling, and integration technologies.
• In-depth knowledge of architecture frameworks and design patterns.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with senior stakeholders, including business leaders and executive management, to define and execute the architectural vision aligned with business objectives
• Develop and maintain comprehensive architecture blueprints and technical designs for enterprise-level systems and applications
• Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams to implement scalable, secure, and cost-effective technical solutions
• Translate high-level business requirements into detailed, actionable technical specifications and architecture documents
• Design and oversee integration strategies between complex systems, applications, and third-party services to ensure seamless interoperability
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior architects and development teams, ensuring adherence to architectural standards and best practices
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies, tools, and platforms to enhance system performance, reliability, and business outcomes
• Analyze and optimize system performance, scalability, and security, identifying and addressing potential bottlenecks and vulnerabilities
• Review and validate solution designs to ensure they comply with organizational standards, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements
• Conduct technical risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address project-related challenges and uncertainties
• Collaborate with project management teams to ensure the timely delivery and successful implementation of architectural solutions
• Lead the development of Proof of Concepts (POCs) and prototypes to validate design approaches, technologies, and integration methods
• Maintain up-to-date and detailed documentation of architectural designs, solutions, and implementation processes for reference and compliance purposes
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the architecture team to enhance efficiency, quality, and innovation in solution delivery

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field
• 8+ years of overall experience working in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, system design, and software development
• 5+ years of experience working with microservices architecture, APIs, RESTful web services, and service-oriented architecture (SOA)
• 2+ years of experience in leading large-scale projects and cross-functional teams in a complex organizational environment
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and cloud-native architecture principles
• 2+ years of experience in the healthcare industry, healthcare data or with large-scale healthcare applications, understanding of healthcare regulations and standards
• Experience working with modern programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C#, or similar) and software development methodologies
• Experience with databases (SQL, NoSQL), data modeling, and application integration technologies
• In-depth knowledge of architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF), design patterns, and industry best practices

Preferred Qualifications:

• Understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (IaC), and automation tools
• Proven solid Written and Verbal skills
• Proven ability to assess and make informed decisions on trade-offs between different technologies, design options, and architectural approaches

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
