Job summary

RMW architecture & interiors, an award-winning design firm in San Francisco, seeks an Architect 1 to lead design development and documentation for diverse projects. You will collaborate across architectural and interiors teams, interact with clients, and guide junior staff in 3D studies, drawings, and renderings.

The role emphasizes code compliance, material research, and coordination with Project Managers through all phases of the project.

Qualifications

• Professional degree or recognized equivalent.
• Licensed Architect; additional credentials encouraged.
• 3-7 years of experience coordinating technical projects and consultants.
• Experience in design development and detailing on varied project types.
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, rendering software, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Creates initial design concepts and documentation.

We are currently experiencing exciting growth and seeking an Architect 1 to play a pivotal role in our San Francisco studio.

Role

Designs to meet project requirements, contributes to the development of architectural site, building and/or interior designs. Depending on a project’s scope, size and complexity, may work independently on small-scale projects or within a larger design team on larger, more complex projects. Sets up a project from the initial phases. Responsible for the architectural and/or interior design drawing tasks, detailing, construction materials, specifications, building codes / approvals process and construction observation. Coordinates the work of major consultants and interprets their plans and specifications. This position will have direct interaction with clients on both architectural and interiors projects.

Responsibilities

• Creates initial design concepts and documentation and seeks team review.
• Works with team to advance the design into technical documents.
• Communicates with Project Manager/Project Architect on program, design, budget and schedule for timely and appropriate design development.
• Collaborates and communicates with designers and other team members.
• Develops 3D studies, models, drawings and renderings with some oversight. Provides guidance to junior staff team on these task types.
• Selects method of drawing and documentation suitable for the project and client type.
• Prepares presentations and documents under the guidance of a Project Manager.
• Prepares and participates in developing presentation techniques that communicate the design concept(s) to the internal teams and client.
• Strategizes the content and prepares the framework drawing set during all phases of the project(s) and in coordination with project plan.
• Coordinate with Project Manager / Project Architect and disseminate to project team the project schedule and budget.
• Responsible for researching and implementing building code and municipal requirements.
• Obtains data, prepares information required by specifications writer and coordinates preparation of specifications.
• Provides supervision and initial quality-control review of team.
• Enlists technical leads for QAQC full reviews.
• Apply standard RMW best practices, details, and forms.
• Prepare and oversee preparation of design and construction documents.
• Utilize RMW standard templates, details and forms
• Researches and validates manufacturers, evaluates and selects materials, finishes, furniture and building systems that align with project goals, including sustainability, accessibility requirements.
• With team support, develops initial concepts to integrate building systems, structure, and technology requirements.
• Coordinates all consultants work during the design, documentation and constructions administration phases with Project Manager/Project Architect oversight.
• Conducts Construction Administration with site observations, RFIs and submittals with Project Manager/Project Architect oversight.

Salary range $72,000 – $78,000/ per year.
