Job summary

United States Forest Service within a National Forest is seeking technical support for heritage resources staff. The role focuses on compiling and presenting archaeological information, processing artifacts, and maintaining accurate site records. Experience with field GIS tools is valued.

You must meet qualification requirements by the closing date; transcripts may be required for education-based qualifications. Volunteer experience is counted toward qualifying experience.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience at GS-04 level or equivalent.
• Or a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with related coursework.
• Or a combination of education and experience as listed above.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to heritage resources staff.
• Assist in computing, compiling, and presenting archaeological information in site records/reports.
• Assist in processing and cataloging recovered archaeological artifacts and related materials.
• Use compass, topographic maps, and GPS to locate and record survey areas and archaeological sites.

Job description

This position is located within a National Forest. The incumbent is responsible for providing technical support to the heritage resources staff.

GS-05: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level; OR successful completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with course work directly related to the position. OR a combination of education and experience listed above.

Examples of specialized experience include: Assisted in computing, compiling, and presenting archeological information in site records and/or reports using designated, well-established guidelines. Assisted in processing and cataloging recovered archaeological artifacts and related materials. Used a compass, topographical maps, and/or GPS unit to find boundaries of archeological survey areas and for recording archeological survey areas and for recording archaeological sites.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
