The Department of Anthropology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Archaeology with a target start date of August 16, 2027.

Geographic area of research is North America with a Midwest US focus; successful candidates will commit to Indigenous archaeology and NAGPRA principles and will develop field or lab projects to train students and support research.

Qualifications

• PhD in anthropological archaeology or closely related field required.
• Commitment to Indigenous archaeology and ethical research practices.
• Experience teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Plans for developing field or laboratory projects to train students and support research.

Responsabilités

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
• Establish and maintain an independent archaeological research program with peer‑reviewed publications.
• Engage with Indigenous communities and implement NAGPRA principles.
• Contribute to department, college, and professional service.
