Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an on-call archaeologist to support cultural resources on projects across Texas and the surrounding region. You will perform surveys, monitoring, site documentation, and data collection under guidance from senior staff, traveling frequently to field sites.

Qualifications include a B.A./B.S. in anthropology or archaeology, 2+ years Texas field experience, GIS and data management skills, and the ability to work 8–10 hour days in varying conditions.

  • Coordinate with project managers, environmental teams, and construction personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable cultural resource laws and guidelines, including NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, Antiquities Code of Texas.

Your impact

Jacobs is looking for an on-call archaeologist to work on a variety of projects throughout Texas and the surrounding region. This position involves providing cultural resources support for planning, engineering, and construction services to renewable energy, government, military, transportation, and commercial clients. The archaeologist career path provides the opportunity to work on projects that require compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Archaeological Resources Protection Act (ARPA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Native American Graves Repatriation and Protection Act (NAGPRA), and state regulations. All work will be conducted under the guidance of senior cultural resources staff.

The ideal candidate will have a B.A. or B.S. in anthropology with experience working in Texas and the surrounding states, experience in conducting archaeological pedestrian surveys (including mapping, data recording, site documentation, and photography), deep and shallow subsurface testing, and conducting archaeological monitoring. Other qualifications include excellent writing and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills, and technological proficiency that includes some experience working with GIS and relational databases.

Frequent travel is expected for the position. It is imperative that candidates be able to work 8-10 hour days in a variety of conditions and understand that there will be frequent stays away from the office.

The successful candidate should have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each project.

  • Prior work experience in a consulting or compliance-driven environment.
  • Has, or is willing to obtain, 40-hour HAZWOPER credentials.

The base salary range for this position is $66,300.00 to $100,000.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
