Far Western Anthropological Research Group, Inc. seeks Archaeological Technicians for part-time contract work based out of our Davis, CA office. Hours vary and are not guaranteed, with compensation ranging from $26.50/hour to $30.00/hour, depending on qualifications.

The role supports fieldwork activities and requires a bachelor’s degree in anthropology/archaeology or related field, plus field experience and strong data-collection skills. Travel and on-site work are expected as needed.

• Ability to interact with clients, Native American representatives, and co-workers.

Responsibilities

• Assist field crews on upcoming fieldwork in the Davis, CA office.

We are currently seeking Archaeological Technicians for part-time contract employment for upcoming fieldwork in based out of our Davis, California office. This position is part of a temporary staffing pool. Work hours are not guaranteed and will vary based on operational needs, staffing requirements, and available assignments. Technician positions range from $26.50/hour - $30.00/hour (or higher depending on qualifications.)

Minimum Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree or higher in anthropology/archaeology (or a related field).
• An accredited field school or commensurate California or Nevada CRM field experience (e.g., survey, precontact and historic-era site identification/documentation/data collection, excavation, and familiarity with standard electronic devices and hand-held tools).
• Detail-oriented, able to adapt to varying data collection needs, attention to field methods/pace, and effective verbal and written communication.
• Willingness to learn/refine new skills on-the-job.
• Ability to collaboratively interact with clients, Native American representatives, and co-workers.
• Can comply with Far Western's Safety Program and other Far Western training and operations protocols.
• Ability to dispatch out of our Davis, CA. office.

Additional Preferred Skills

• Current First Aid/CPR training/certifications.
• Basic compass, map, GPS navigation skills.
• Experience working outdoors in variable weather conditions and different types of environments.
• Ability to hike up to ten miles a day for up to 10 consecutive days in rugged terrain and variable weather.
• Willingness and ability to camp overnight in remote locations, as needed.
• Has a current driver's license and can operate a 4WD vehicle in varying terrain.
