Job summary

The ideal candidate holds a Master's degree, 10 years of supervisory experience (NM/military CRM preferred), strong technical writing, and excellent communication. Travel about 60% is required; some duties may involve hybrid work and remote coordination.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field.
  • 10 years of supervisory experience (preferably in New Mexico and with military CRM).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat software suites.
  • Registrant of the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) or qualified to become a registrant.
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in extreme terrain and environmental conditions.

  • Management and supervision of staff members for archaeological investigations throughout New Mexico, with particular focus within west-central New Mexico.
  • Travel for fieldwork required by this position is estimated to be 60%.

Archaeological Field Director

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico

Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. is currently seeking a full-time Archaeological Field Director in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Summary:

Responsible for project management, report preparation, supervision of Cultural Resources Management (CRM) field staff conducting archaeological survey, site recording, excavation, and/or mitigation. The ideal candidate must demonstrate effective communication, organization, and leadership skills with relevant regional experience in all phases of CRM.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the cultural resource lead for complex cultural resource investigations.

  • Plan, conduct, and lead cultural resources surveys, site recording, excavations, monitoring, and other fieldwork duties.

  • Assist staff with permit compliance and other agency/regulatory stipulations.

  • Ability to conduct fieldwork in extreme terrain and environmental conditions.

  • Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, all applicants must be U.S. Citizens.

Pay Range:

The pay range for this role is $65,000 to $85,000 annually, plus benefits (health insurance, paid time off, holidays, 401(k) contributions, and employee stock ownership plan [ESOP] participation), and optional hybrid workplace. This is a reasonable estimate for this role. Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

ADA Notations:
  • Some sedentary work is performed in an office/laboratory setting, with the majority of work performed outdoors, often in remote areas.

  • Must be able to drive to remote areas

  • Must be able to walk 8-10 miles a day with field pack and ample water, over rough terrain in variable weather conditions which likely will include high temperatures in summer months.

  • A portion of the duties require strenuous physical effort associated with hiking during archaeological reconnaissance and surveys, such as climbing steep slopes, and physical labor such as stooping, bending, and carrying loads in excess of 50 pounds during archaeological excavation work.
