Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in Mokena, IL is seeking a dynamic Climbing Arborist Trainee to join our on-site tree-care team. Your office is outdoors, and you will learn climbing, pruning, and removal techniques while supporting a professional crew.

Starting pay is $20–$23 per hour with paid time off, safety gear, uniform equipment, and access to advancement opportunities as you gain experience and complete safety and certification training.

Qualifications

• Must love the outdoors.
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights.
• Willing to complete Davey Tree Orientation Program on hire.
• Willing to complete First Aid, CPR and defensive driving courses on hire.
• Pesticide licenses may be required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and work as part of a tree crew.
• Learn pruning, removal and safety practices.
• Assist with installing cables, bracing and lightning protection.
• Maintain tools and equipment including chainsaws and chippers.
• Develop skills to grow within the arborist team.

Job Duties

What You'll Do:

• Learn to climb trees! (Yes, we will pay you to do that.)
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients. Including but not limited to:
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.

Qualifications

What We're Looking For:

• Love of the outdoors
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
