The Davey Tree Expert Company is currently seeking a dynamic Climbing Arborist Trainee for Summer 2027 in Denver, CO. The role offers hands-on field experience in tree care, plant health care, sales, and client services with on-site work outdoors.

Starting in Summer 2027 as a temporary, full-time internship, the position pays $22.00 hourly. Training includes climbing, safety, and technical tree-care skills, with opportunities for advancement within an employee-owned company.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors and willingness to learn.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights is preferred.
• Must complete Davey Tree Orientation Program upon hire.
• Must complete Davey Tree First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire.
• Preferred: pesticide licenses/certificates if required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and be paid to do it.
• Operate as a member of a tree crew and learn new skills.
• Perform pruning and removal safely and skillfully for clients.
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood in canopies.
• Learn to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment (chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts).
• Growth and advancement depend on performance.

The Davey Tree Expert Company is looking for exceptional students who are interested in expanding their field experience in the areas of Tree Care, Plant Health Care, Sales and Client Services.

STARTING DATE

Flexible - We are currently seeking internship candidates for Summer 2027. This is a temporary, full-time position ideal for college students on summer break who want to gain hands-on experience in the field.

Rate of pay: $22.00 hourly

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

• Learn to climb trees! (Yes, we will pay you to do that.)
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while progressively learning new skills
• Learn to perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients. Including but not limited to:
• Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines
• Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Learn how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems
• Assist in removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.
