Job summary

City of Cañon City is seeking an Arborist Technician to support Forestry Services. Under the Senior Arborist, you will perform skilled tasks in street tree care, operate forestry equipment, and help maintain safety and inventory across city parks.

You will handle pruning, risk assessments, and may assist with special events. Requires climbing at heights, valid Colorado driver’s license, and CDL eligibility; full-time, with a typical Monday–Friday schedule and potential weekend work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Colorado Driver's License.
• Colorado Class B CDL with Airbrake Endorsement or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Follow the Senior Arborist's daily directives; perform tree trimming/removal.
• Conduct tree risk assessments and identify defects or pests.
• Climb trees using rope and saddle techniques for maintenance.
• Operate and maintain forestry equipment and tools.
• Assist with inventory updates, safety trainings and work zones.
• Prepare material and supply orders for Large Tree Care activities.
• Participate in 24-hour emergency storm response as needed.
