The F. A. Bartlett Tree Expert Company in Santa Monica, CA is seeking an Arborist Ground Person to join our professional tree-care crew. This entry-level role emphasizes practical field experience and hands-on training in science-based arboriculture for commercial and residential properties.

Responsibilities include learning to prune, rig, cabling/bracing, hazardous-tree removal, equipment operation, and strict adherence to safety policies while supporting Arborist Climbers and Crew Leaders.

Qualifications

• Interest in outdoor arboriculture and natural environments.
• Willingness to learn through on-the-job training.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Learn on-the-job to safely perform pruning, rigging, cabling and bracing, and removal of hazardous trees.
• Operate hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts with safety protocols.
• Assist with work zones, driving, backing and parking duties, and support climbing crews.
• Adhere to all safety rules and company safety policies.

Responsibilities

As an Arborist Ground Person, you will play an important role in:

• Learning through on-the-job training to safely perform all aspects of arboriculture, including:
  • Pruning trees
  • Rigging
  • Cabling and bracing
  • Removal of hazardous trees
  • Properly maintaining and operating equipment (hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts)
  • Implementing work zone safety procedures
  • Assisting Arborist Climbers and Arborist Crew Leaders working on the ground and aloft
  • Assisting with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties
• Learning, understanding, and adhering to all safety rules and company safety policies

Qualifications

• A passion for nature, the environment, and the outdoors
• Interest in working outdoors year-round performing manual labor in all weather conditions
• A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to participate within a multi-disciplinary team
• Prior tree care, landscaping, forestry, or horticulture experience is preferred but not required
• Valid driver's license
• Degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Plant Science, Landscape Management, Environmental Science or a related field is preferred but not required
