Job summary

Bartlett Tree Experts in Charlottesville, VA is seeking an Arborist Ground Person to join a professional crew. This entry-level role offers hands-on training in practical arboriculture on commercial and residential properties, with a strong emphasis on safety and personal development.

You will learn to prune trees, rig, cabling and bracing, remove hazardous trees, and operate equipment while following safety procedures within a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• Entry-level role with on-the-job training.
• Must be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Support tree care operations under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist Arborist Climbers with on-ground tasks and rigging.
• Prune trees, perform cabling and bracing tasks as trained.
• Assist with removal of hazardous trees and operation of hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
• Help maintain safe work zones and comply with safety policies.
• Assist with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties as needed.

As an Arborist Ground Person, you will play an important role in

• Learning through on-the-job training to safely perform all aspects of arboriculture, including
  • Pruning trees
  • Rigging
  • Cabling and bracing
  • Removal of hazardous trees
  • Properly maintaining and operating equipment (hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts)
  • Implementing work zone safety procedures
  • Assisting Arborist Climbers and Arborist Crew Leaders working on the ground and aloft
  • Assisting with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties
• Learning, understanding, and adhering to all safety rules and company safety policies
• A passion for nature, the environment, and the outdoors
• Interest in working outdoors year-round performing manual labor in all weather conditions
• A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to participate within a multi-disciplinary team
• Prior tree care, landscaping, forestry, or horticulture experience is preferred but not required
• Valid driver's license
• Degree in Arboriculture, Forestry, Horticulture, Plant Science, Landscape Management, Environmental Science or a related field is preferred but not required
