Job summary

The Onyx Group in Greenville, SC seeks a Denials & AR Follow-Up Specialist to analyze and resolve denied, underpaid, and unpaid insurance claims, maximizing reimbursement and reducing AR. You will serve as a subject matter expert in payer reimbursement, denial management, and appeals processing.

Responsibilities include complex account research, preparing appeals, collaborating with internal teams to resolve barriers, and ensuring timely documentation and follow-up to protect revenue.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years of healthcare revenue cycle experience.
• Minimum 2 years of denials management, insurance follow-up, accounts receivable resolution, or reimbursement recovery.
• Experience working with physician practice billing, professional claims, and multi-specialty healthcare organizations preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required; associate/bachelor preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, and resolve denied claims across commercial, government, and managed care payers.
• Identify denial root causes including coding, authorization, eligibility, credentialing, registration, documentation, and payer processing issues.
• Prepare and submit first-level, second-level, and complex appeals within payer filing deadlines.
• Obtain and review medical records, referrals, authorizations, operative reports, and supporting documentation necessary for appeal submissions.
• Monitor appeal status and perform ongoing follow-up until final claim resolution.
• Escalate payer trends and unresolved denial issues as appropriate.
• Maintain assigned AR inventory and work accounts per productivity and aging standards.
• Contact insurance carriers through payer portals and direct communication to resolve balances.
• Analyze EOBs/ERAs and investigate underpayments to ensure accurate reimbursement.
• Identify opportunities for revenue recovery and process improvement.
