Job summary

Des Moines Airport Authority is seeking an experienced accounting professional to support Finance and Engineering. The role involves general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, fixed asset accounting, and payroll processing.

You will train staff, perform reconciliations, and ensure compliance with applicable policies and regulations, while explaining financial information to internal departments and vendors.

Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Accounting Manager, perform a wide variety of technical accounting work associated with constructed fixed assets and the financing associated with those activities. This accountant position, which supports the activities of both Finance and Engineering, will include tasks related to general ledger accounting, accounts payable, fixed asset accounting, accounts receivable, and general recordkeeping.

Essential Job Functions:

• Maintenance of accounts receivable customer files to ensure accuracy and compliance with departmental policies and any state/federal guidelines
• Audits, computes, and records financial transactions related to various contractual/operational agreements and/or intergovernmental operations
• Trains other Airport personnel in financial processing and/or timekeeping/payroll procedures
• Recommends process improvements to Accounting Manager regarding current accounting procedures and related financial systems
• Researches historical accounting data
• Explains transactions to operating departments and outside parties
• Processes and prepares Airport invoices and requests for payment
• Processes and reviews timekeeping records for payroll to ensure entries are in compliance with FLSA, applicable union contracts, and internal policies
• Interprets and applies departmental or office rules, policies, and regulations in accordance with prescribed procedures and guidelines
• Provides information to customers, vendors, and Airport staff over the phone, via e-mail, and in person
• Provides needed information and training concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions
• Provides limited support of office reception desk and/or Airport Board meetings to cover absences of Board Clerk
• Processing of various reconciliations
• Electronic scanning, sorting, and filing of financial records
• Keeps Accounting Manager accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems
• Attends meetings, conferences, workshops and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas
• Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities
• Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification
