Job summary

Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation is seeking an Aquatics Manager responsible for daily operations and maintenance of all indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities. Leads staffing, budgets, and event support, while ensuring safety, policy compliance, and program development across facilities.

Direct supervision of volunteers, part-time staff, and contract professionals; duties include training, BERPrecord maintenance, and coordination with departments for service delivery and marketing efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Parks and Recreation Administration, Education, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years' increasingly responsible management experience.
  • Minimum of three years in leadership roles.
  • Minimum of three years in pool operations, aquatic staff development, food and beverage operations, and aquatic programming.
  • AFO or CPO certification within one year of hire; lifeguard instructor certification within one year.
  • Basic first aid, AED and CPR within three months; WSI preferred; CPR/BLS not required.

A complete list of benefits can be found at www.cityoflsbenefits.comJob Scope:Directly supervises volunteers, part-time employees, and contract professionals for programs, facility operations and special events. Responsible for the preparation, administration and monitoring of the budgets related to aquatic operations. Responsible for maintaining Building Equipment Replacement Fund (BERP) records for assigned facilities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:1. Ensures quality control, patron service and risk management policies and procedures for the aquatic facilities.2. Enforces facility policies and procedures consistently for staff and patrons.3. Compiles all operational records for the aquatic facilities.4. Evaluate and report on the functional capabilities of all aquatic equipment.5. Directly responsible for the recruitment, training, supervision and retention of aquatic staff.6. Maintains personnel, payroll records and master files for the operation of assigned facilities.7. Teaches aquatic courses as necessary.8. Collaborates with other divisions of the Department in order to ensure delivery of service consistent with Departmental missions and objectives.9. Coordinates winterization and de-winterization and any in-season maintenance of outdoor facilities.10. Participates in professional organizations.11. Monitors and oversees marketing efforts for assigned facilities, including the use of social media platforms, to maximize exposure for facility events and activities; works collaboratively with the Marketing Coordinator for large-scale marketing efforts.12. Ensures the enforcement of park and recreation rules and regulations.13. Perform those activities necessary to ensure the safety of participants.14. Develops and maintains operational manuals, standard operating procedures, and emergency operations procedures for assigned facilities.15. Develops and reviews contracts related to aquatic operations.16. Prepares and monitors the aquatic budgets. Determines cost effectiveness by analyzing revenues and expenditures. Ensures compliance to the approved budget.17. Present written reports to the Administrator of Parks and Recreation and Parks Board as needed.18. Performs or oversees safety and other necessary training for assigned staff.19. Evaluates facility operations and activities through observation and direct contact with participants as well as by written surveys; determines needs for assigned facilities.20. Coordinates all special events held at outdoor facilities and arranges for adequate staffing and support as needed.21. Responsible for ensuring compliance with all City, County, and State licensing requirements or other regulations in the operations of assigned programs and facilities.22. Responsible for management and oversight of the BERP accounts for assigned facilities.23. Manages and maintains up-to-date inventory of assigned equipment and supplies.24. Maintains daily cash receipts and is responsible for ensuring the facility is opened and closed each day.The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Minimum of three (3) years’ increasingly responsible management experience required; and,3. Minimum of three (3) years experience in a leadership position required; and,4. Minimum of three years’ experience in pool operations, aquatic staff development, food and beverage operations and aquatic programming required; and,5. AFO or CPO certification required within one (1) year of date of hire; and,6. Lifeguard instructor certification required within one (1) year of date of hire; and,7. Basic first aid, AED and CPR certification required within three (3) months of date of hire.8. WSI certification preferred.9. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional preferred.
