Job summary

Arch Amenities Group in Brooklyn, NY is seeking an Aquatics Instructor to provide high-quality swim instruction using a structured curriculum. The role focuses on safety, confidence, and skill development for diverse ages and abilities.

Qualifications

  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification required.
  • CPR certification required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience teaching swim lessons to children and/or adults.
  • Strong leadership, customer service, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Teach multiple levels of swim instruction per established Red Cross standards.
  • Assess and communicate class placement and progression to participants and parents.
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to varied ages and abilities.
  • Maintain safety and enforce pool rules.
  • Coordinate with reception/front desk on schedules and attendance.
  • Maintain equipment, certificates, and program materials.

Position Summary

The Aquatics Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality swim instruction to individuals and small groups of varying ages and skill levels using a structured swim curriculum.

Our instructors create a safe, welcoming, and encouraging learning environment while helping participants develop swimming skills, water confidence, and proper water-safety habits.

This is a part-time position offering consistent programming and a flexible schedule, making it an excellent opportunity for experienced instructors as well as individuals looking to build their aquatics, recreation, education, or fitness experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Effectively teach multiple levels of swim instruction in accordance with established American Red Cross standards and curriculum.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the skills and requirements associated with each instructional level.
  • Provide individual and small-group swim instruction to participants of varying ages and abilities.
  • Evaluate swimmers and effectively communicate appropriate class placement and progression to participants and parents.
  • Maintain familiarity with registration procedures, current class schedules, and aquatic programming.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the reception/front desk team regarding classes, attendance, and programming.
  • Prepare certificates, patches, cards, and other materials upon completion of applicable courses.
  • Maintain the safety of all swimmers through preventative supervision and identification of potentially hazardous situations.
  • Enforce pool rules and regulations in a professional, polite, and courteous manner.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations in the pool and deck areas.
  • Maintain knowledge of current aquatic programs, schedules, and facility information.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and wear the appropriate uniform while on duty.
  • Report to scheduled shifts on time and prepared to teach.
  • Complete and submit required attendance and class records on time.
  • Help ensure that the aquatic area remains safe, clean, organized, and welcoming.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Applicants must possess the following current certifications:

  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification
  • CPR Certification
Additional Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Standard First Aid certification preferred.
  • Experience teaching swim lessons to children and/or adults.
  • Knowledge of American Red Cross swim levels and instructional standards.
  • Strong leadership skills and work ethic.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, and move throughout the aquatic facility.
  • Ability to use hands and arms to operate equipment and assist participants when necessary.
  • Ability to safely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in an aquatic environment that may include exposure to pool chemicals, humidity, noise, heat, and varying indoor/outdoor temperatures.
  • Awareness and use of proper body mechanics to reduce the risk of injury.
