Job summary

Krpa in Lenexa, KS, is seeking an Aquatics Supervisor within the Parks & Recreation division to oversee aquatic facilities and lead part-time/seasonal staff. The role focuses on program delivery, budget planning, and coordinating lifeguard training throughout the year.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or related field, plus 1 year of supervisory and programming experience; Lifeguard Instructor certification or willingness to obtain within 6 months is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees day-to-day operations of aquatic facilities, scheduling part-time/seasonal staff.
  • Supervises part-time/seasonal staff including training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Develops and administers program operating budgets, including fees, equipment, and staffing needs.
  • Assists in marketing programs through the website, social media, and other channels.
  • Develops and implements staff lifeguard in-services and online training for policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and instructs American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Courses.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with community organizations to promote district-wide programs.
  • Participates in department and district-wide meetings to support strategic objectives and initiatives.
  • Opportunity to participate in district-wide committees.
  • Develops expertise in recreation program trends by attending professional conferences and serving on professional committees.
  • Aquatics point person in the absence of the Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Specialist.
  • Provides support to the Aquatics Specialist and Manager.
  • Performs other administrative responsibilities as assigned.

Job description

  • Assists with hiring and onboarding of part-time and seasonal staff.
  • Oversees day-to-day operations of aquatic facilities, including scheduling of part-time/seasonal staff for aquatic facilities to support programming.
  • Supervises part-time/seasonal staff including training, evaluating, and coaching, along with disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Creates, provides, and supports appropriate aquatic programs for patrons, ensuring programs are marketed, implemented, and evaluated effectively.
  • Develops and administers program operating budgets, including establishing program fees, planning for equipment, and staffing needs.
  • Establishes program fees and manages expenses to operate programs at prescribed cost recovery levels.
  • Assists in the marketing of programs through the website, social media, and other marketing opportunities.
  • Assists in the development of operating budgets for aquatic facilities and programming.
  • Develops and implements staff training for lifeguard in-services along with online training for facility policies & procedures.
  • Coordinate and instructs American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Courses throughout the year.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with community organizations to promote district-wide programs.

This position is also responsible for the supervision and leadership of employees, which includes making employment-related decisions and/or recommendations, and formally evaluating performance.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in the study of Recreation or related field. (Experience may be substituted for a degree)
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification or the willingness to obtain within 6-months.
One-year supervisory experience.
One-year recreation programming.

Preferred Job Requirements:

Certified Pool Operator or Aquatics Facility Operator Certification.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:

Schedule varies due to the nature of business with large events, programs, changing of facility schedules and helping cover facilities. Early mornings, evenings and weekend hours will be required.
Exposure to fumes and/or chemicals.
Exposure to extreme temperatures.
Lifting: up to 50lbs.
Uniform Required
Travel Required: 5% locally
All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
