Summary
Provides lifeguard duties; is responsible for safeguarding the lives of persons at the assigned work area; assists with aquatic training, education, and general support at the installation.
Duties
Pool and/or waterfront lifeguard duties comprise 60% of the incumbent's time and include but are not limited to:
- Performing all pool and/or waterfront lifeguard responsibilities (e.g., supervising swimmers/patrons, monitoring water activities, applying first aid, enforcing safety rules, reporting hazards, performing rescues).
- Observing conditions of the area to ensure safety and removing hazards as necessary.
- Performing water rescues, administering CPR or first aid, and calling for medical assistance if needed.
- Conducting and documenting chemical testing of pools, adjusting chemicals as directed.
- Documenting marine life, water, and weather conditions.
- Marking swim and surf areas with flags (Waterfront Only).
- Operating rescue vehicles as needed (Waterfront Only).
General duties
Comprise 40% of the time and include:
- Administering aquatic assessment testing and certification per DoD, DON, and CNIC policies.
- Providing equipment orientations, checking IDs, and collecting fees.
- Serving as liaison during emergencies.
- Performing cleaning and routine maintenance.
- Inspecting safety equipment and facilities.
- Maintaining emergency equipment.
- Enforcing policies regarding facility use.
- Preparing incident reports and notifying management of emergencies.
- Handling hazardous materials.
Requirements
Conditions of Employment
- Must pass E-Verify and resolve discrepancies.
- Must submit current certifications: Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens.
- Salary via Direct Deposit.
- Pass background check.
- Work may include weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of safety rules, beach/marine hazards, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to identify hazards and assist patrons immediately.
- Ability to enforce rules tactfully and conduct safety inspections.
- Proficiency in chemical testing, rescue techniques, and communication.
- Ability to manage large groups and communicate effectively.
- Must attach certifications when applying.
Education
- Must possess and maintain all required certifications.
Additional info
Salary depends on experience and education. Some positions have special requirements. Spouse of active-duty military may receive preference. Must register with Selective Service if applicable. Employment is drug-free.
