Job summary

The Aquatic Rehabilitation Specialist will conduct safe, fun, dynamic and effective water fitness classes based on YMCA Standards & Guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of related field experience.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required and maintained.
• Aquatic Therapy Rehab Institute certification required and maintained.

Responsibilities

• Conduct aquatic rehabilitation sessions safely and professionally based on participant needs and goals.
• Develop and implement individualized aquatic exercise plans to improve mobility, strength, flexibility, balance, and wellness.
• Collaborate with aquatics staff to ensure coordination and program development, retention, and promotion of aquatic rehabilitation services.
• Lead participants through therapeutic aquatic exercises with clear instructions and modifications.
• Assess participant abilities and adjust activities for safety and progression.
• Communicate effectively with participants, caregivers, healthcare providers, and staff; share progress and recommendations.

HOURLY RATE: $20-$22 PER SESSION (HALF-HOUR SESSIONS)

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• A minimum of one (1) year's experience in related field.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications are required and must be maintained throughout employment.
• An Aquatic Therapy Rehab Institute certification is required and maintained throughout employment.

• Ability to remain alert and visually monitor participants in an aquatic environment, respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies, and perform water rescues, CPR, First Aid, AED, and other emergency response skills as required by certification standards.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and maintain various body positions for extended periods while supervising participants, instructing aquatic exercises, assisting individuals, and setting up equipment.
• Ability to demonstrate and instruct aquatic exercises involving balance, flexibility, strength, and range of motion.
• Ability to safely assist participants with varying levels of mobility when entering and exiting the pool, providing physical support as needed.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull aquatic equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive movements associated with instruction and equipment setup.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with participants, caregivers, and staff in a noisy aquatic environment.
• Ability to work in a humid environment with exposure to water, chlorine, and varying temperatures.
• Ability to complete required documentation and basic computer and administrative tasks.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

Essential Functions

• Conduct aquatic rehabilitation sessions in a safe, effective, and professional manner based on participant needs and program goals.
• Develop and implement individualized aquatic exercise plans to support mobility, strength, flexibility, balance, and overall wellness.
• Collaborate with aquatics staff and other wellness professionals to ensure effective program coordination while assisting with program development, participant retention, and the promotion of aquatic rehabilitation services.
• Lead participants through therapeutic aquatic exercises by providing clear instruction, encouragement, appropriate modifications, and guidance on the safe and proper use of aquatic equipment.
• Assess participant abilities and adjust activities based on individual limitations, progress, and safety considerations.
• Recognize and respond appropriately to participant needs, including changes in physical condition or signs of distress.
• Communicate effectively and provide exceptional member service by responding to participant, caregiver, healthcare provider, and staff questions, concerns, and feedback in a timely and professional manner, while sharing progress, goals, and program recommendations.
• Document participant attendance, progress, exercise plans, and any concerns according to organizational procedures.
• Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming aquatic environment by monitoring participants, enforcing pool rules, following emergency procedures, and ensuring the proper setup, use, and storage of equipment.
• Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, safety standards, accessibility guidelines, and applicable regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director or program supervisor.
