Job summary

Georgia Aquarium seeks a Part Time Commissary Technician in Nutrition Services to prepare diets, maintain sanitation, and manage inventories. The role supports husbandry, veterinary services, and guest/interfacing tasks as needed. A flexible schedule and prior food-service or animal-care experience are valued.

The technician will train and lead volunteers, maintain records, and help develop operational procedures to ensure accurate diets and smooth commissary operations.

Qualifications

• BS/BA degree in biology, nutrition, animal science, or related field.
• Direct experience with aquatic animals preferred.
• Food service or preparation experience and sanitation understanding.
• Flexible schedule including nights/weekends.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to working in the commissary for at least 12 months.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Prepare diets by following instructions, weighing items, and portioning accurately.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas and equipment.
• Maintain and manage inventory; inform supervisor of low items and rotate stock (FIFO).
• Help select, train, and direct commissary volunteers.
• Communicate with staff to ensure service to Husbandry and Vet Services teams.
• Mentor commissary volunteers on diet prep and facility operation.
• Maintain records and assist in developing operations manuals.
• As needed, interact with guests, media, or the public on behalf of Georgia Aquarium.
• Perform other duties as workload dictates.
