Discovery World in Milwaukee is offering a Spring Reiman Aquarium Internship in the Aquatics Department. This semester-long, hands-on program supports daily care of exhibit and quarantine animals, including water testing, feeding, and equipment maintenance.

Interns work two days per week, 8am–4pm, for up to 200 hours, with optional SCUBA considerations and dive-safety guidance. Applicants should be biology students or recent grads with an interest in animal care.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled (freshmen year completed) or recently graduated from a Biology-related program.
  • Preference given to individuals with prior animal husbandry experience.
  • SCUBA certification preferred; own dive gear required if certified.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare animal diets
  • Feed Aquarium animals
  • Monitor and test water quality on Aquarium systems
  • Observe animals for disease and injury
  • Monitor and maintain life support equipment
  • Make and store saltwater
  • Help maintain Aquarists’ daily logs and task lists
  • Draft and complete an SOP for each system
  • Present weekly educational programs to the public
  • Complete a research project and present results
  • Conduct feeding and cleaning dives (if dive certified)
