Job summary

Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Aquarium is seeking interns to assist with maintenance across Shark Experience, Sting Ray Bay, and related zones. You will scrub algae, vacuum sand, clean windows, and prepare diets, while keeping detailed records and assisting guests.

You’ll participate in educational programs, support animal care and training sessions, and help monitor life support systems. Ability to lift 60 lbs and work outdoors in varied weather is required.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid driver license.
• Must be comfortable speaking in front of large crowds.
• Must be articulate and able to clearly speak, read, and write in English.
• Must have good vision and hearing.
• SCUBA certification required.
• Must possess mechanical aptitude and have the knowledge to use basic power and hand tools.
• Must be able to work with chemicals and follow SDS and have knowledge of basic chemistry.
• Must be willing and able to work 40 hours a week, both indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions.
• Must be willing and able to work in and around saltwater and electrical equipment.
• Must possess strong swimming skills.
• Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
• Must possess the mental and physical capacities necessary to perform primary responsibilities and pass an annual physical exam and stress test.
• Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Opening procedures for Shark Experience and Stingray Bay.

• Assist with animal care, feeding, and training sessions as assigned.
• Check pumps and filters and report any filtration problems to Aquarium Leadership.
• Check the health and appearance of the fish daily and report problems.
• Life Support Systems for Sting Ray Bay and Shark Basin.
• Follow all policies and procedures of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and the Aquarium Department.
• Participate in animal restraint, moves, and transport operations.
• Identify each shark and ray by house name.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned.

• Checking pumps and filters and reporting any filtration problems to the Aquarium Leadership.
• Checking the health and appearance of the fish on a daily basis and immediately reporting any problems to Aquarium Leadership.

• Follow all policies and procedures of Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and the Aquarium Department.
