Job summary

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to assist physicians in patient care and teaching. You will prescribe medications in line with protocols, help identify clinical trial candidates, and participate in rounds to ensure high‑quality cancer care.

The role includes on‑call coverage, timely charting, and collaboration across teams to support patient outcomes. Florida licensure with prescriptive privileges is required.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program; master’s degree or post‑masters certificate.
• Licensed to practice in Florida with prescriptive privileges or eligibility.
• BLS certified.
• Strong leadership and analytical abilities; capable of managing multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

We are recognized by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) with a national Clinical Trials Participation Award, FCS offers patients access to more clinical trials than any private oncology practice in Florida. Our patients have access to ground‑breaking therapies, in a community setting, and may participate in national clinical research studies of drugs and treatment protocols. In the past five years, the majority of new cancer drugs approved for use in the U.S. were studied in clinical trials with FCS participation prior to approval. Through our partnership with Sarah Cannon, we are one of the largest clinical research organizations in the United States. Often, FCS leads the nation in initiating research studies and offering ground‑breaking new therapies to patients.

SUMMARY

Assists physician in the care and teaching of patients.

PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assess patients' physical and psychosocial status through interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies.
• Write prescriptions for medication and blood products based on laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow‑up studies, therapeutic measures, and care post‑discharge in accordance with written practice protocols.
• Based on findings, determine patients' eligibility for entry into clinical trials.
• Interpret and evaluate findings of studies/tests.
• Relay appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
• Administer therapeutic measures / obtain specimens as prescribed.
• Dictate follow‑up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response and plan.
• Dictate or writes patient history, admissions, progress notes, and discharge notes in a timely manner.
• Assist in the management of family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patients’ care.
• Conduct or participate in daily multi‑disciplinary rounds for assigned patients to ensure patients are receiving appropriate and quality care.
• Provide on‑call coverage and perform hospital rounds as needed.
• Triage patients to determine the urgency of physician evaluation.
• Document and report care in an accurate, timely manner using appropriate forms and records.
• Demonstrate a willingness to learn and to remain flexible in the changing healthcare environment.
• Assist staff in times of crisis or emergency.
• Meet with the public outside the institution and efficiently market and promote cancer treatment.
• Determine work priorities, assign work and insure proper completion of work assignments.
• Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law. Adheres to FCS and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Recovery Plan.
• Other duties as requested.
• Keep work area and records neat and orderly.
• Maintain all company equipment in a safe and working manner.
• Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information as required by the HIPAA regulations.
• Assist in training new employees to related job duties.
• Will be expected to work at any FCS location to help meet FCS business needs as directed by collaborating physicians.
• Will be expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice of required overtime.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES

Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program, master’s degree in nursing or post‑masters nurse practitioner certificate program 0-3 Years Licensed as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Current license/registration to practice in the state of Florida, prescriptive privileges or eligible to apply Certification from PANCE (Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or the Oncology Nurses Certification Corporation (ONCC). BLS certified
