Job summary

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to assist physicians in patient care. You will assess patients, write prescriptions, and help screen for clinical trials across multiple locations.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program (master’s or post‑masters).
  • Licensed as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Florida and eligible for prescriptive privileges.
  • Certification from PANCE, AANP, ANCC, or ONCC is required or expected.
  • Current BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients’ physical and psychosocial status through interviews, histories, exams, and diagnostics.
  • Write prescriptions for medications and blood products per protocols and results.
  • Determine patient eligibility for entry into clinical trials when applicable.
  • Interpret study results and relay care plans to the collaborating physician.

Summary

Assists physician in the care and teaching of patients.

Primary tasks and responsibilities
  • Assess patients' physical and psychosocial status through interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies.
  • Write prescriptions for medication and blood products based on laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow‑up studies, therapeutic measures, and care post‑discharge in accordance with written practice protocols.
  • Based on findings, determine patients' eligibility for entry into clinical trials.
  • Interpret and evaluate findings of studies/tests.
  • Relay appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
  • Administer therapeutic measures / obtain specimens as prescribed.
  • Dictate follow‑up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response and plan.
  • Dictate or writes patient history, admissions, progress notes, and discharge notes in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the management of family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patients’ care.
  • Conduct or participate in daily multi‑disciplinary rounds for assigned patients to ensure patients are receiving appropriate and quality care.
  • Provide on‑call coverage and perform hospital rounds as needed.
  • Triage patients to determine the urgency of physician evaluation.
  • Document and report care in an accurate, timely manner using appropriate forms and records.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and to remain flexible in the changing healthcare environment.
  • Assist staff in times of crisis or emergency.
  • Meet with the public outside the institution and efficiently market and promote cancer treatment.
  • Determine work priorities, assign work and insure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient’s rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law.
  • Adheres to FCS and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Other duties as requested.
  • Keep work area and records neat and orderly.
  • Maintain all company equipment in a safe and working manner.
  • Maintain and ensure the confidentiality of all patient and employee information as required by the HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist in training new employees to related job duties.
  • Will be expected to work at any FCS location to help meet FCS business needs as directed by collaborating physicians.
  • Will be expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice of required overtime.
Education/Certifications & Licenses
  • Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program, master’s degree in nursing or post‑masters nurse practitioner certificate program 0-3 Years
  • Licensed as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Current license/registration to practice in the state of Florida, prescriptive privileges or eligible to apply
  • Certification from PANCE (Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or the Oncology Nurses Certification Corporation (ONCC).
  • BLS certified
