Veolia in North America is seeking a Waste Compliance Specialist to review and approve non-hazardous industrial waste for landfill disposal and to determine acceptability of waste materials in accordance with site capabilities and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry is required with 2+ years in a related occupation.
  • 1 year experience with IBMi/AS400.
  • 2 years hands-on experience in laboratory or field settings evaluating, processing, and coordinating the safe handling of hazardous materials.
  • 2 years of experience interpreting and applying federal and state hazardous waste regulations (RCRA, TSCA, DOT, LDR).

Responsibilities

  • Understand WAP requirements, disposal capabilities, and local/state/federal regulations (RCRA, EPA, DOT).
  • Review and approve waste profile sheets, supplemental forms, and waste analysis reports for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate reactive and over-packed waste streams for hazards and safety concerns.
  • Prepare and revise technical documents including profile sheets, disposal decisions, site addenda, and receiving forms.
  • Identify analytical testing requirements for waste treatment and disposal.
  • Coordinate with customer service, laboratory, and sales to resolve issues.
  • Provide technical assistance on waste stream acceptability and permit requirements.
  • Process profile modification requests and update AS400 database records.
  • Communicate with operations, EH&S, and accounting on material acceptance and costs.

Job Description

Responsible for reviewing and approving non-hazardous industrial waste for landfill disposal at Veolia landfills and case-by-case approvals for facilities in accordance with site capabilities, approved permits, and appropriate
regulatory requirements. Determine acceptability or rejection of chemical components of waste materials utilizing a variety of analytical, MSDS’s, and facility information to expedite non-hazardous waste in a timely manner to the satisfaction of the customer and facility personnel. Conduct special waste audits of landfills. Ensures that approval process is in proper compliance with company policies and procedures.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive understanding of WAP requirements, disposal capabilities, and local/state/federal regulations (RCRA, EPA, DOT) for hazardous waste disposal and transportation.

  • Review and approve waste profile sheets, supplemental forms, and waste analysis reports for accuracy and regulatory compliance with authority to complete final approvals.

  • Evaluate reactive and over-packed waste streams to determine hazards, incompatibilities, and safety concerns.

  • Complete and revise technical documents including 5-page profile sheets, disposal decisions, site addenda, and receiving forms.

  • Identify and select appropriate analytical testing requirements for waste treatment and disposal.

  • Identify deficiencies/discrepancies in profile information and coordinate with customer service, laboratory, and sales to resolve issues.

  • Provide technical assistance to approval chemists, sales, and customers on waste stream acceptability, permit requirements, and safe handling of reactive materials.

  • Process profile modification requests and update AS400 database records.

  • Communicate regularly with operations, environmental, health and safety, and accounting departments regarding material acceptance from permits, operations, safety, and cost perspectives.

  • Consult with internal resources to ensure reactive and over-packed drums can be safely managed.

  • Contact generators/manufacturers when additional technical information is required.

  • Provide technical support to receiving and operations departments.

  • Develop cost analyses in consultation with operations and accounting for approval, receiving, processing, and incineration of reactive waste streams.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • Bachelor's degree, or foreign degree equivalent in Chemistry and 2 years of experience in a related occupation required.

  • 1 year experience with IBMi/AS400.

  • 2 years of hands‑on experience in laboratory or field settings evaluating, processing, and coordinating the safe handling and elimination of hazardous materials while maintaining strict safety protocols and procedures.

  • 2 years of experience interpreting and applying federal and state hazardous waste regulations as they relate to incineration operations, including Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) combustion standards, Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) incineration requirements, Department of Transportation (DOT) shipping protocols, and Land Disposal Restrictions (LDR) treatment standards.

  • Schedule:Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
  • Hours:40 hours per week

Additional Information

Pay Range: $76,877 to $83,000 Per Year.
