Job summary

Walker White Mechanical is looking for an Apprenticeship Training Coordinator to lead our plumbing, sheet metal, pipefitting/welding, and HVAC tracks in Columbia, SC. The role centers on mentorship, coordination, and building school/community partnerships to create paid pathways into skilled trades.

You will recruit and mentor apprentices, track progress, and align training with instructors and employers to ensure success and better outcomes for trainees.

Qualifications

• A genuine passion for teaching, coaching, or developing people.
• Construction or mechanical trades background is a huge plus.
• Comfort presenting and speaking in front of groups.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Patience, tact, and cultural competency.
• Organizational and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of a program.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage day-to-day operations across apprenticeship tracks (plumbing, sheet metal, pipefitting/welding, HVAC).
• Serve as the face of the program to School Districts, Technical Colleges, and labor and veteran partners.
• Recruit and mentor new apprentices and build relationships that raise interest in trades careers.
• Coach apprentices through their training program and track progress and milestones.
• Partner with instructors and employers to keep training on track and efficient.
• Identify opportunities to improve program efficiency and apprentice outcomes.
• Maintain apprentice records and monitor program success.
• Represent Walker White Mechanical at community, school, and industry events.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• A genuine passion for teaching, coaching, or developing people — former teachers and trainers are strongly encouraged to apply
• Construction or mechanical trades background is a huge plus — you'll speak the apprentices' language and earn credibility fast
• A love for working with young people and career-changers from all backgrounds
• Comfort presenting and speaking in front of groups — classrooms, employers, and community partners alike
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Patience, tact, and cultural competency working with diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ability backgrounds
• Sharp organizational and problem-solving skills — you can juggle multiple tracks and deadlines without dropping the ball
• Comfort with standard computer systems and office software
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of a program
• Background in education, program administration, workforce development, or related field preferred
• Valid driver's license and clean criminal record required
