Job description

Job Description: Manufacturing Technician at K2 Space

K2 Space is building large, high-powered spacecraft for the next generation of space development. Backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Altimeter Capital, and others, with $180M raised to date, we aim to mass produce the highest-powered satellite platforms for missions across LEO to Deep Space.

As launch vehicles like Falcon 9 and Starship enable a move from mass constraint to mass abundance, we believe spacecraft must be designed differently to fully utilize these rockets. Our team is committed to building large, high-powered satellites capable of handling multiple orbits, a necessity for developing the solar system and achieving Kardashev Type II civilization status.

If you are motivated, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and are excited about joining a groundbreaking Series B space startup, we encourage you to apply.

The Role

This position supports the production team in manufacturing and developing the K2 Mega-class satellite and future spacecraft generations. You will assist with mechanical and electro-mechanical component assemblies, working alongside experienced aerospace technicians and engineers. A willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm for building from the ground up are essential.

Responsibilities
  1. Support production line and test lab equipment setup, maintenance, and modifications.
  2. Assist in fabrication and assembly of production line equipment.
  3. Operate machine shop tools such as mills, drill presses, grinders, saws, and forklifts.
  4. Help set up production areas, including assembling equipment, workbenches, and storage racks.
  5. Support engineering and senior technicians in prototyping, process development, and testing of satellite components.
  6. Assist with hardware movements and lifting operations across sites.
  7. Practice 5S principles to organize and maintain an efficient workspace.
Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. At least 1 year of hands-on industry experience.
  3. Proficiency with computers and MS Office.
  4. Strong willingness to learn and grow.
  5. Strong work ethic, initiative, and team commitment.
Nice to Have
  1. Familiarity with mechanical tools and equipment.
  2. Knowledge of electrical hardware.
  3. Experience in development or production environments.
  4. Good communication skills for feedback to engineering teams.
  5. Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Additional Requirements
  1. Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  2. Ability to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces.
  3. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
Compensation and Benefits
  1. Hourly pay: $23 – $28 + equity.
  2. Pay based on knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
  3. Comprehensive benefits including unlimited PTO, medical/dental/vision, life insurance, parental leave, and perks.

We encourage applicants who may not meet all preferred skills to still apply. Building a unique spacecraft requires a unique team. If needed, please request reasonable accommodations during the application process.
