Job summary

Jasper County REMC in Indiana is seeking an Apprentice Lineman or Journeyman Lineman to build and maintain the electric distribution system and to support our expanding fiber initiatives. You will begin by working alongside Journeyman Linemen, while enrolled in the Rural Electric Apprenticeship Program (REAP).

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for a motivated, safety-focused, team player to join our line crew as an Apprentice or Journeyman Lineman. This individual should desire to master the critical craft of powering our communities.

POSITION SUMMARY

As an Apprentice Lineman, you will be enrolled in the Rural Electric Apprenticeship Program (REAP), a four-year apprenticeship program conducted through our Statewide Organization, Indiana Electric Cooperatives. During this program, you will attend classroom instruction offsite as well as complete on-the-job training working alongside our Journeyman Linemen.

As a Journeyman Lineman, you will be responsible for the construction and maintenance of the Jasper County REMC electrical distribution system.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

As an Apprentice Lineman, your journey begins out in the field, on the ground, working alongside our Journeyman Linemen in all weather conditions; day or night, extended periods of time during storm restoration and will be subject to an on-call rotation.

As you begin and progress in your apprenticeship, you will be engaging in the following activities including, but not limited to:

• Engaged in Safety: Put safety at the forefront of every decision that is made. Attend and participate in safety meetings. Attain and maintain required certifications, such as; CPR, AED, and First Aid.
• Learn the system: Gain an in-depth understanding of our electric distribution system.
• Master the equipment: Operate bucket and digger trucks, hydraulic equipment, power equipment, battery-operated and manual equipment.
• Overcome the heights: Train to safely climb utility poles and conduct work out of a bucket truck.
• Line Work: Gain and use skills as applicable to perform construction, operation, and maintenance of the electric distribution system. Assist with the fiber distribution system as needed.
• Interpret and Follow Specifications/Regulations: Interpret blueprints, staking sheets, and other electrical specifications. Understand and follow: Rural Utilities Service (RUS) specifications, National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), ANSI standards, OSHA regulations and other applicable codes and regulations.

As a Journeyman Lineman, your position requires working alone and/or working as part of a crew in all weather conditions, day or night, extended periods of time during storm restoration and will be subject to an on-call rotation.

• Line Work: Possess skills to perform construction, operation, and maintenance of the electric distribution system. Ability to work on high-voltage distribution lines in both energized and de-energized situations. Assist with the fiber distribution system as needed.
• Interpret and Follow Specifications/Regulations: Interpret blueprints, staking sheets, and other electrical specifications. Understand and follow: Rural Utilities Service (RUS) specifications, National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), ANSI standards, OSHA regulations and other applicable codes and regulations.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

• Residence: Permanently reside in or be willing to relocate within a fifteen (15) mile radius, as the crow flies, of the Jasper County REMC headquarters within a period of twelve (12) months from your date of hire as a term and condition of employment.
• Education: A high school diploma or a general education diploma is required. Must enroll in the REAP Four-Year Apprenticeship Program.
• Requirements: A valid Indiana driver’s license. You are required to either currently possess a valid Indiana Class A CDL driver’s license or be able to obtain a Class A CDL within twelve (12) months of hire.
• Work Environment: Ability to walk, stand, climb, reach, stoop and kneel for long periods of time, bend in all directions, squeeze with arms and hands, move and/or lift equipment up to 100 pounds, and operate both manual and power equipment.
• Drive & Dedication: A strong work ethic and dedication to our membership is imperative.
• Residence: Permanently reside in or be willing to relocate within a fifteen (15) mile radius, as the crow flies, of the Jasper County REMC headquarters within a period of twelve (12) months from your date of hire as a term and condition of employment.

• Electric Distribution Knowledge: An effective working knowledge and familiarity with tools, equipment and methods used in electrical construction, installation, and maintenance.
