Big Save Markets Eleele is offering an Apprentice Meat Cutter role in the Meat department. The apprentice will learn cutting, trimming, and preparation of meat products while delivering standard customer service under the Meat Manager or Assistant Meat Manager’s guidance.

The program includes a two-year apprenticeship with on-the-job training and related instruction, preparing you to become a skilled tradesperson in a fast-paced store environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Must be at least 18 years old to operate machinery.
• Possesses a food handling license.

Job Title: Apprentice Meat Cutter

Department: Meat

Reports to: Meat Manager/ Assistant Meat Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for learning the trade of a Meat Cutter by productively performing the duties of the job under the guidance and instructions of the Meat Manager or Assistant Meat Manager.Cuts, trims, bones, and grinds meat to portion and prepares quality meat department products to be displayed, while providing standard customer service. Completes a Two-year apprenticeship requiring on-the-job experiences and related instruction prior to being considered a qualified skilled tradesperson

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• - Greets customers when within ten feet and four seconds of contact
• - Learning of cuts different types of meats, poultry, and seafood
• - Stocks and rotates meat items, to maintain freshness and quality, removes damaged items from cases, maintains price integrity
• - Packs meat products ontrays, then forward to wrapping
• - Reworks older meats by marinating for sale
• - Completes basic cleaning of department, by washing and sanitizing work tools and area
• - Performs job duties of a meat wrapper
• - Works in the seafood department as needed for customer service and cutting and prepping all seafood items.
• - Performs other related duties as needed as assigned by manager

OTHER DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES

• - Use of proper safety procedures
• - Able to listen to directions and follow through independently
• - Have good communication and observation skills
• - Able to work with a team and independently when needed

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION

• - High school / Secondary school diploma or GED
• - Must be at least 18 years of age to operate machinery
• - Possesses a food handling license

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• - Previous experience working with the public
• - Able to pass a Journeyman skills cutting test upon completion of 2 year apprenticeship
• - Basic knowledge of meat products preparation and uses
• - Working knowledge of different seafood types and cuts of meats required
• - Basic knowledge with knives, grinder, slicer
• - Able to manage time well
• - Able to make suggestions to customers

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• - Air condition while in store, 40-50 degrees while working in the Meat department, freezer and chill.
• - Very fast paced
