Job summary

Sugarbush Resort is seeking an Apprentice Instructor for its Ski and Ride School in Vermont. This seasonal, part-time role offers on-snow training with opportunities to grow professionally and join a team dedicated to guest experiences.

You will teach and supervise children, maintain safety, and work with a supportive staff while pursuing relevant certifications and enjoying the Vermont mountain lifestyle.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Intermediate skier/snowboarder on blue terrain.
• Experience in teaching/coaching or as a ski/snowboard instructor.
• Experience working with children.
• Spanish language knowledge is a plus.
• PSIA/AASI I–III and USSA certifications preferred.
• Available to work holidays and weekends.
• Able to stand/walk on snow and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Uphold safety on varied terrain in winter conditions.
• Arrive on time and attend morning meetings.
• Supervise and assist children in class, including lunch and snack times.
• Instruct levels per Instructor Guide progressions.
• Provide a safe, fun learning environment with creative class handling.
• Assist in loading/unloading children on chairlifts per policy.
• Support in registration, equipment fitting, and area upkeep.
• Communicate lesson content and progress to guardians.
• Ensure children are returned to guardians.
• Follow company guidelines and Vermont Skier Safety Act rules.

Position Summary

This Apprentice Instructor position requires a minimum of 18 days with a starting pay is $15/hour and increases after completed relevant instructing certifications.

Job Specifications

• Skill Level: Non-Certified or Certified
• Shift Availability: Part Time

Responsibilities

• Uphold the highest levels of safety on varied terrain in a mountain environment, with unpredictable winter weather conditions in a fast paced, potentially high-pressure environment.
• Arrive to work on time prepared for all duties.
• Attend morning meetings.
• Supervise and assist the children in your class at all times including during lunch and snack times.
• Clearly and accurately instruct assigned levels, physically and verbally, per the progressions in our Instructor Guide.
• Provide a safe and fun learning environment through exceptional class handling and creativity.
• Assist lift attendants to properly load and unload children on the chairlift, lifting children by the vest (if applicable) in accordance with our Kids on Lifts policy.
• Assist in operational responsibilities of children's programs including registration process, directing guests to appropriate equipment fitting source, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities.
• Communicate child's lesson content and progress of the lesson with the identified guardian.
• Ensure the return of children to their identified guardians.
• Uphold Company guidelines and the Vermont Skier Safety Act rules and regulations.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Must be intermediate skier/snowboarder, parallel or linking turns on groomed blue terrain.
• Previous experience with teaching/coaching/mentoring and/or previous ski or snowboard instructor experience.
• Experience working with children.
• Knowledge of Spanish language is a plus.
• PSIA/AASI Level I, Level II or Level III Certification is preferred.
• USSA Certifications preferred.
• Prior ski racing, freestyle background is a plus.
• Considerations give to uncertified candidates with good skiing/riding skills, good communications skills, and enthusiasm for the sport with a passion for passing that on to others.
• Available to work holidays and weekends - calendar and scheduling requirements for new & returning staff.
• Successfully complete mandatory on snow training.
• Must be able to stand and walk on snow for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, squat and lift 50 lbs.
• Must have good guest service skills and work well in a team.
• Ability to work in inclement weather in a mountain environment.
