Job summary

MYR Group Inc. is seeking an Apprentice Mechanic to learn diagnostic and maintenance skills on company vehicles and equipment.

Under the supervision of an experienced mechanic, you will gain hands-on experience performing routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs using diagnostic computer software to identify issues. You will operate under DOT and OSHA rules, maintain records, and participate in training to advance your skills.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in vocational/technical school or completed apprenticeship in vehicle and equipment repair preferred, OR six months of general heavy truck/vehicle/equipment repair experience.
• Must be capable of operating company vehicles and equipment daily with proper licensing.
• At least 18 years old; high school diploma preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist experienced Mechanics with maintenance, servicing, and repairs under close supervision.
• Access equipment areas to perform maintenance and inspections on vehicles and trailers.
• Follow safety rules and regulations (DOT, EPA, OSHA, etc.).
• Maintain records of time, materials, and repairs performed.
• Track information in computer software and ensure accuracy of repair orders and timesheets.
• Conduct safety inspections and participate in ongoing safety training.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an Apprentice Mechanic to learn a wide range of diagnostic and maintenance skills on vehicles and equipment. Under the supervision of an experienced mechanic, you will receive hands‑on experience performing routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on company equipment. You will become familiar with the mechanical and technical aspects; by using diagnostic computer software on our vehicles to identify issues.

Essential Functions

• This is a trainee position. Learn from and assist experienced Mechanics with performing maintenance, servicing, and repair on all types of equipment under close supervision.
• Access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on, or under parts of vehicles and trailers.
• Work in accordance with DOT, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Interstate Authority, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other rules and regulations as required.
• Maintain records of time and materials used on each job, the condition of the equipment, and the repairs performed.
• Track information in computer software; ensure repair orders and weekly timesheets are complete and accurate.
• Conduct safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation.
• Participate in training programs; maintain and update safety skills and knowledge; keep current with hazardous material training requirements.
• Regular and predictable attendance.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Essential functions of this position are to be performed at a Company‑designed office or field location.
• Understand and comply with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and other industry‑specific professional and ethical standards.

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a vocational/technical school program, or completed apprenticeship in vehicle and equipment repair preferred, OR have six months of experience in general heavy truck repair, automotive repair, or equipment repair; equivalent trade school/technical school time may be applied toward this requirement.
• Must be capable of operating company vehicles and equipment on a daily basis. The employee must have the ability to drive and have proper licensing.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Must be reliable and have a strong work ethic
• Good teamwork skills to work effectively with coworkers
• Ability to communicate effectively to converse with employees, read orders and work instructions, and make accurate entries in the daily log
• Basic computer or data entry skills
• Experience using mechanical tools, materials, and testing equipment
• Working knowledge of design, adjustment, operation, maintenance, and repair of vehicles and equipment
• Ability to follow posted safety rules and safe operating procedures

Physical Requirements

• Reaching (including above your head); bending, climbing, pushing, pulling, twisting, squatting and kneeling to perform repairs and inspections
  Lifting - medium level work - exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• Must be able to routinely perform work both indoors in climate‑controlled shared work area with moderate to loud noise level, outside in sometimes inclement weather, or potentially difficult/hazardous conditions
• May be subject to hazards including variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts and moving vehicles
• May be subject to vibration, such as oscillating movements of extremities or entire body

Upon recommendation of the immediate supervisor, approval by the VP of Fleet, and demonstrated proficiency to meet the job requirements of the next level, incumbents in this position level may advance to the next level classification based on position availability.

• Salary $20.00-$24.00 / hour
  • Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
