  • Install, maintain, and repair fiber optic cables and related equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and document data for reporting and invoicing.
  • Collaborate with peers and leaders to keep work sites clean, safe, and organized.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities in processes and inventory.
  • Be familiar with common tools and their uses.

Job description

Backbone Fiber is seeking to hire an Apprentice Fiber Technician based out of our headquarters just off I-25 in Berthoud, CO. The role provides training in cable installation, fusion splicing, and advanced testing and troubleshooting for individuals eager to join an exciting organization supporting the Rocky Mountain region with a rapidly expanding fiber infrastructure.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly Pay Range: $20 - $24
  • Four‑day work week from 6:45 am to ~5:00 pm with potential overtime opportunities – weather/workload permitting.

Responsibilities
  • Works with peers to ensure workplace and job site safety is a top priority.
  • Provides insights into potential safety hazards and is willing to stop work when necessary.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs fiber optic cables and related equipment.
  • Takes personal ownership of the job to solve everyday problems.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisors, both verbally and in data entry.
  • Collaborates well with peers and leaders.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and well‑organized work site – including any assigned vehicles.
  • Identifies and acts on cost‑saving opportunities in process, procedure, and inventory.
  • Has a basic understanding of common tools and their uses.
  • Documents and inputs accurate data for reporting, invoicing, and workflow efficiency.
Requirements
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Valid Driver’s License – including no more than three major traffic violations or at‑fault accidents in the last five years.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • No history of alcohol or drug‑related traffic violations.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to perform the physical, mental, and environmental requirements of the job’s essential functions.
  • Standing for 8–10 hours daily.
  • Walking on uneven terrain, including distances over one mile at times.
  • Crouching.
  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Not color blind.

Other Requirements
