Job description

We are currently taking applications for experienced Apprentice Electricians with ratings from E2 to E5. As an Apprentice Electrician, you will work under the guidance of a Journeyman electrician assisting in the installation, alteration, addition, and/or repair of electrical systems on commercial work sites.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Apprentice License: Must have an active Texas Apprentice License through TDLR.
  • Licenses/ID: Current Driver’s License and/or State ID.
  • Education: High School Graduate, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: At least 1 year of experience in the E2 classification.
  • Tools: Must have basic hand tools of the trade.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in securing, relocating, and organizing materials, small tools, and equipment.
  • Keep work area clean by disposing of scrap and excess materials.
  • Maintain materials and tools in an organized manner.
  • Assist in pulling wire, lifting, hoisting, and positioning materials.
  • Operate less complicated hand tools and equipment under supervision.
  • Digs trenches using hand tools.
  • Assist in mounting and strapping.
  • Support more senior personnel in electrical installations under supervision.
  • Perform other project-related duties as instructed.
  • Meet attendance standards and follow notification procedures.
  • Note: Do not work on energized circuits or equipment.

MINIMUM SKILLS PER RATING:

E1 – Minimum Skills:

  • Identify wire colors.
  • Perform 90-degree conduit bends with hand benders.
  • Use power tools, saws, threaders, and knockout punches.
  • Operate hand tools and equipment like cable cutters and hammer drills.
  • Dig trenches manually or with power equipment.
  • Perform wire pulls.
  • Read maps, manuals, specifications, and instructions.

E2 – Skills of E1 plus:

  • Perform off-set conduit bends.
  • Explain markings on hand bender heads.
  • Know wire pulling procedures.
  • Understand tools and materials.
  • Perform wall and fixture rough-ins.
  • Identify correct caps/connectors for wire gauges.
  • Work from mechanical lifts.

E3 – Skills of E2/E1 plus:

  • Perform 3-point saddle and back-to-back conduit bends.
  • Terminate junction boxes.
  • Install conduit branches and feeders.
  • Make fixture connections.
  • Underground rough-ins and methods.
  • Operate trenchers, backhoes, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders, and lift trucks safely.
  • Read and interpret drawings and schematics.
  • Operate mechanical lifts.

E4 – Skills of E3/E2/E1 plus:

  • Perform 4-point saddle and kick conduit bends.
  • Basic blueprint reading.
  • Layout from sketches.
  • Panel terminations.
  • Size conduit and boxes.
  • Underground layout and rough-in.

E5 – Skills of E4/E3/E2/E1 plus:

  • Layout work and material prep.
  • Troubleshoot electrical circuits and systems.
  • Underground layout and rough-in.
  • Determine wire and conduit sizing.
  • Install bus feeders and switchgear.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This role operates in a client project environment with exposure to employees, subcontractors, and trades.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, handle materials, reach, and manipulate objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Access points in various climates and environments.
  • Ability to visualize objects in 2D and 3D, read blueprints, and solve spatial problems.
  • Use ladders, stairs, and perform bending and reaching activities frequently.
