The Apprentice - Aircraft Support Mechanic (ASM) is a critical TechOps role at Delta Air Lines. In this role you will receive on‑the‑job training that provides practical experience with the procedures, practices, materials, tools, and equipment generally used. You will serve as part of the crew that helps maintain the proper and safe functioning of Delta’s fleet, ensuring customers have an exceptional travel experience.

Summary of On‑the‑Job Training

• Performs work activities in accordance with established laws, regulations, standards, safety protocols, and procedures to ensure safety of self and others.
• Shadows AMTs to conduct inspections to locate damage, defects, or wear that may affect safety, reliability, or customer experience, reporting issues appropriately.
• Shadows AMTs to test machinery, mechanical equipment, components, and parts for defects to ensure proper functioning.
• Works alongside AMTs to install, remove, or modify aircraft structures, systems, or components following drawings, schematics, charts, engineering orders, and technical publications.
• Works alongside AMTs to repair worn, defective, or damaged parts or components (e.g., seat gears, tray tables, wiring/electrical) using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
• Reads and interprets technical manuals and guidelines to perform inspections, installations, repairs, or other work activities.
• Interprets and uses specifications, drawings, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, or flow charts to determine operational methods or sequences and to complete work activities.
• Researches manuals, flight logs, or other technical resources to gather information needed to complete work activities.
• Practices safety conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.

Compensation

Hourly rate: $24.00.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the United States.
• Must currently attend a partnered 147 Accredited school.
• Enrolled in one of Delta’s 147 A&P partnered schools.
• Successfully passes a required assessment class.
• In the last semester of completion for the FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate program.
• Continues to attend normal scheduled classes at the 147 A&P partnered school while in the apprenticeship program.
• Successfully completed the General Knowledge exam and either the Airframe or Powerplant Knowledge exam, working to complete the last portion.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Able to read, write, and comprehend English and apply information contained in technical manuals.

Time and Attendance

• Work schedule will be maintained locally.
• No more than 30 hours per week scheduled.
• Apprenticeship will conclude no later than 6 months from start date.
