Job summary

Opendoor is seeking an Applied Scientist (ALL LEVELS) to push the boundaries of AI at our company, with a major impact on pricing accuracy and transparency. You’ll work on multi‑modal modeling and data integration to improve how we price homes for customers.

The role involves designing end‑to‑end ML solutions, deploying models in production, and collaborating with engineering and operations to deliver scalable valuation systems using structured and unstructured data.

Qualifications

• Strong Python and production-grade coding skills.
• Experience deploying ML models end-to-end from research to production.
• Hands-on with deep learning architectures (ConvNets/Transformers).
• MS or PhD in computer science, statistics, mathematics, or related field.
• Solid foundation in statistics and experimental design.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy architectural improvements to deep neural network–based home valuation models.
• Build interpretable ML models to explain pricing decisions to customers.
• Incorporate unstructured data (images, videos, text) into forecasting and valuation pipelines using AI models (LLMs, VLMs).
• Collaborate with Engineering and Ops to enhance pricing systems.
• Improve feature engineering and model training pipelines powering production systems.
• Rethink risk and optimization models using real-world data and domain insight.
• Work across the research and modeling stack in a nimble team.
