Job summary

Amazon Science in Seattle is seeking a Sr. Applied Scientist to lead advancements in Just Walk Out technology and computer vision.

You will mentor other scientists, collaborate with multiple teams, and tackle novel challenges at scale, shaping how millions of customers interact with checkout-free experiences. You will drive research in multi-object tracking, re-identification, and video understanding while exploring scalable visual AI techniques and real-world deployment considerations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of building models for business applications.
• PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience.
• Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language.
• Experience in algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing.

Key job responsibilities

As a Sr. Applied Scientist, you will help solve a variety of technical challenges and mentor other scientists. You will be the thought leader of the team. You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and given the size of this initiative, you’ll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. You should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that’s higher than most projects and relish the idea of solving problems that, frankly, haven’t been solved at scale before - anywhere. The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
