Job summary

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. seeks Applied Scientists to advance automated reasoning, formal verification, and neurosymbolic approaches across AWS services. You will work on verification for cloud infrastructure, cryptographic assurance, and AI safety, influencing products and customer trust.

You will mentor researchers, collaborate with partner teams, and publish in peer-reviewed venues while delivering production-grade solutions at Amazon scale.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent research experience.
• Experience in mathematical logic, formal verification, satisfiability solving (eg SAT/SMT), mechanical theorem proving, model checking, or program analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement algorithms and formal methods for automated reasoning to verify correctness, security, and reliability of computing systems.
• Solve large or significantly complex problems requiring deep knowledge and scientific innovation; own design, implementation, and delivery of solutions with long-term impact.
• Develop new decision procedures, heuristics, and search strategies to improve verification tools; deploy production-grade automated reasoning systems at scale.
• Explore and apply generative AI and machine learning to enhance automated reasoning, including learning-based heuristics and neural approaches to symbolic reasoning.
• Develop automated reasoning techniques for generative AI and agentic coding systems for safety and alignment of autonomous agents.
• Conduct original research and publish findings in peer-reviewed venues.
• Collaborate with customer teams to identify tools and methods addressing verification needs and translate capabilities into production systems.
• Provide cross-organizational technical influence and mentor scientists and engineers on formal methods and neurosymbolic techniques.
