Job description

Kenda American Technology Center (KATC) advances Kenda’s global design capabilities and develops new automotive, powersport, and bicycle tires for the North American marketplace. KATC was established in 2014 and is located in North Canton, Ohio. KATC currently has a staff of 50 and is expected to grow to 70~80 employees as Kenda expands its North American customer base. Departments include Tire Development, Tire Research, Tire Testing, and Tire Materials. Facilities include a Tire Testing Laboratory, Rubber Mixing Laboratory, and Material Analysis Laboratory in addition to the R&D office space.

Position Summary

The Applied Research Engineer will use innovative applications like computer simulation, digital twin technology and advanced mathematical modeling to solve complex problems in today’s transportation systems. This position will be responsible for studying the complex nature of tires and developing new technologies to incorporate into our tires. This role is vital for driving innovation and supporting the growth and advancement of our products globally.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience with Abaqus or Hyperworks.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, data mining, and/or machine learning.
  • Programming experience with Python, C, and/or JavaScript.
  • Willingness to travel.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or Applied Mathematics.
  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Candidates with experience in the tire/rubber industry preferred.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Solve challenging tire performance problems.
  • Study the mechanics and behavior of tire performance.
  • Develop new methods and techniques for virtual tire development.
  • Conduct tire research into areas like noise, vehicle performance, material mechanics, fuel economy and other tire performance areas.
  • Utilize various engineering tools like finite element analysis, data mining, and machine learning to solve tire-engineering problems.
  • Work with an internationally diverse team.
