Alignerr is seeking an Applied Physics Specialist (AI Training) to design PhD-level physics problems and craft gold-standard solutions. You will audit AI reasoning for consistency with fundamental laws and help improve model behavior on boundary conditions and conservation laws.

This fully remote hourly contract role requires deep mastery of classical mechanics, electrodynamics, statistical and quantum mechanics, with strong written English communication and independent work discipline.

About The Role

What if your expertise in physics could directly shape how AI understands the fundamental laws of the universe? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to stress-test cutting-edge AI models — probing their reasoning across quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, thermodynamics, and beyond. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No AI background needed — just deep mastery of physics and the ability to think rigorously about where AI reasoning breaks down.

What You'll Do

• Design Advanced Problems — Craft PhD qualifying exam-level physics problems that demand multi-step logical reasoning, complex mathematical derivation, and first-principles thinking
• Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step model answers where every constant, unit conversion, and logical step is precisely correct
• Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated proofs and simulations for physical consistency, identifying where models "hallucinate" physics that violates fundamental laws
• Refine Model Behavior — Provide structured, expert feedback to improve AI reasoning around boundary conditions, conservation laws, and physics-informed constraints

Who You Are

• PhD completed or near-completion in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
• Deep mastery across the core pillars: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
• Exceptional ability to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations in clear, structured English
• Uncompromising attention to detail — units, scientific notation, and logical flow of proof matter to you
• Self-motivated and reliable when working independently and asynchronously
• No prior AI or machine learning experience required

Nice to Have

• Experience with data annotation, scientific dataset evaluation, or quality assurance workflows
• Proficiency with MATLAB, COMSOL, Python (NumPy/SciPy), or similar computational tools
• Background in research, academic publishing, or technical writing
