Job summary

Apple Inc. in Cupertino seeks an Applied Machine Learning Scientist to advance edge AI for sensing technologies across iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad and beyond. You will transform raw image and time-series data into actionable models deployed across Apple devices.

You will design and deploy ML algorithms, collaborate with sensor architects, and contribute to scalable data analyses, model validation and performance metrics using TensorFlow or PyTorch. A BS is required with 3+ years of experience.

Qualifications

• BS degree in CS, EE, Statistics, or related field with 3+ years of experience.
• Strong background in Deep Learning and classical ML (CNN/RNN, GAN, active learning).
• Publications, patents, or open-source projects demonstrating ML ideas.
• Experience with one or more DL packages (TensorFlow or PyTorch).

Responsibilities

• Design and implement machine learning algorithms that process image or time-series data measured by various sensors in different Apple products
• Deploy Apple's massive computing platform with thousands of GPU's and CPU's ready just for you to establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large-scale data analyses, model development and model validation
• Communicate advances ideas to a focused team - Develop innovative tools and metrics that change the way we look at problems
• Work cross-functionally with sensor architects and software engineers to build the next generation of sensing technologies

Minimum Qualifications

• BS degree in CS, EE, Statistics, or other related field and 3 years of experience
• Strong background in Deep Learning and classical Machine Learning, including but not limited to CNN/RNN architectures, GAN, active learning, k-shot learning and model complexity reduction techniques
• Track record of coming up with new ML ideas, as proven by publications, patents or open-source projects
• Experience with one or more Deep Learning packages including but not limited to TensorFlow and PyTorch
• Proficiency in Python programming

Preferred Qualifications

• MS or Ph.D. degree in CS, EE, Statistics, or other related field
• Experience in human computer interaction (HCI) space
• Experience with signal processing
• Familiarity with C++ or Objective-C programming
• Experience processing large-scale data sets using Mesos, Spark, or Hadoop
• Past experience in creating high-performance implementations of deep learning algorithms

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $150,400 and $277,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
