Job summary

Trane Technologies is seeking a field-based HVAC service technician to commission, troubleshoot, repair, and startup systems at commercial sites. You will work on on-site projects across healthcare, education, and industrial facilities, applying your knowledge of HVAC theory, piping, and controls.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Technical School preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and handheld devices.
  • Valid driver’s license for at least 12 months with clean driving history in last 3 years.
  • EPA Certification preferred (HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, etc.).
  • Experience servicing chillers, large-tonnage HVAC, or commercial/industrial equipment.
  • Experience with centrifugal, screw, scroll, or absorption chillers.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration cycles, compressors, heat exchangers, pumps, motors, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, piping schematics, and service literature.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, gauges, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems and chiller controls.

Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair applied chiller systems and associated HVAC equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control issues using manuals, schematics, and tools.
  • Evaluate system operation and recommend repairs, upgrades, or efficiency improvements.
  • Communicate clearly to customers and internal team stakeholders.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety policies, regulations, and standards.
  • Support emergency service calls and respond promptly to issues.
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, service vehicle, and parts.

What Is In It For You

This role is the primary service and maintenance contact for Trane Technologies customers in a defined market with a diverse commercial base including Healthcare, Process Manufacturing Facilities, Education Institutions, and Office Complexes. You will be commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, and starting up HVAC systems in a commercial environment. In order to perform your task you will utilize your knowledge of air conditioning theory, pipe fitting, and mechanical layouts. This position affords you the opportunity to work with internal and external partners ranging from new facility set ups to existing facility retro fits. What You Will Do
  • Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair applied chiller systems and associated HVAC equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues using technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Evaluate system operation and recommend repairs, upgrades, or efficiency improvements.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently to customers and appropriate internal team stakeholders.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety policies, environmental regulations, and company standards.
  • Support emergency service calls and respond to customer issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain company tools, test equipment, service vehicle, and parts as needed.
What You Will Bring
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent, or certificate of completion from an accredited technical school is required. Technical School or formal training is preferred.
  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft office software and working proficiency with hand held computer (i.e. Smartphone, iPad).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to: DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
  • EPA Certification Preferred (e.g. HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, Gas Installer etc.).
  • Experience servicing applied chillers, large-tonnage HVAC systems, or commercial/industrial mechanical equipment preferred.
  • Experience with centrifugal, screw, scroll, or absorption chillers preferred.
  • Knowledge of refrigeration cycles, compressors, heat exchangers, pumps, motors, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, piping schematics, and technical service literature.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, gauges, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Familiarity with building automation systems and chiller controls.
