Job summary

Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense is seeking a Research Technician to support behavior, palatability, and novel trials involving cats and dogs. You will execute study protocols, collect data, and present results to the team, while monitoring animal health and welfare.

The role includes collaboration with Trial Execution Technicians, animal husbandry as workload allows, and adherence to IACUC approved protocols. A Bachelors in a related field or equivalent hands-on experience is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Animal Behavior, Animal Science, Biology or related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Demonstrated interest in animal behavior, welfare, or applied animal research.
• Experience with the proper treatment and handling of cats and dogs in a research setting.
• Experience maintaining a functional workspace, including upkeep of instrumentation, equipment, supplies, and materials.

Responsibilities

• Execute behavioral, palatability, and novel research trials per approved protocols.
• Conduct trial activities, including feeding, weighing animals, and operating dishwashers.
• Operate equipment to evaluate feeding enjoyment and preference in dogs and cats.
• Collect, code, and analyze behavior trial data using The Observer, LIMS, and Excel.
• Summarize and report trial data to project leads or scientists.
• Monitor animals’ health and participation; communicate concerns and countermeasures.
• Support animal welfare through adherence to IACUC protocols.
• Contribute to improvement of methods, metrics, and research practices.
