Job summary

Capital One is seeking an Applied Researcher I focused on AI foundations, LLM core and agentic AI. You will partner with cross‑functional teams to deliver AI-powered customer experiences, building foundation models and translating research into practical applications.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD or MSc with strong applied research experience and will work across a broad stack including PyTorch, AWS, Huggingface, and vector databases to push the state of the art in banking AI.

Qualifications

• PhD in EE/CE/CS/AI/Math or related fields; or MS with 2+ years of applied research and degree by start date

Responsibilities

• Partner with data scientists, software engineers, ML engineers and product managers to deliver AI-powered products.
• Utilize PyTorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning, VectorDBs to derive insights from large data.
• Build AI foundation models from design through training, evaluation, and deployment.
• Engage in applied research to translate AI advances into customer experiences.
• Translate complex work into tangible business goals.
